Mechanical Lead and Deputy(s) - Roles and Responsibilities
- Mechanical design and construction of robot.
- Responsibility - design and construction of all robot mechanisms, drivetrain, and test fixtures. Training of mech students in CAD, fabrication, mechanical analysis, shop safety/etiquette. Ensuring all mech students have good learning experience.
- Authority - All mechanical design decisions (meeting requirements developed by Systems/Integration Captain). All actuator analysis and selection. All mech training.
- Potential deputy roles:
- drivetrain
- specific mechanisms
- Duties:
- Study best mechanical engineering practices of top teams
- Develop/document standard mechanical processes and resources
- Identify most commonly used mechanisms and develop training for them
- Fall: training:
- Tools, jigs, CAD, 3D printing, fabrication, Grizzly
- Build:
- Develop construction schedules w/milestones (subject to Project Manager)
- Construction of competition robot and mechanisms per schedule
- Post-Build:
- Construction of post-bag robots/mechanisms for drive and control systems
- Develop/execute test plans in cooperation with Electrical Lead(s)
- Write technical documents for awards judging (subject to Operations Lead)
- Competition:
- Rapid repair and adjustment of robot in pit
