The lead mentor role is a lot of work and in most cases, it's better to split it among several mentors provided their philosophies are compatible. The responsibilities include:

  • Training and mentoring the student leaders, especially the captain(s), project manager(s), and subteam leads
  • Engaging with faculty and administration
  • Engaging with parents
  • Purchasing/managing costs
  • Recruiting mentors
  • Keeping the mentor contingent happy and productive
